After P5 merged first: a close leads to the audit and the period's
attestation, an audit run to its workpaper and the claims behind it, the
attest tools to the attestations and the CPA package; a refusal for want of
a standing audit is the guard audit_required with books.audit as its
remedy; the audit prompt runs the audit tools. policy.cpa_package_requires_audit,
unset, refuses once the books hold an audit run and warns before, so a
book that has not begun the programme is not stopped from its first handoff
by a rule it has not met; set to refuse, it holds from the start.
bookspec states B-45 (convention) in its checker.

An audit is the books read as an auditor reads them, through a day. The
pure checks over a ledger are one function per finding code in
ledger_core::audit: the trial balance balances, assets equal liabilities
plus equity, the P&L articulates to equity (net income since the first
entry is current earnings plus what the closes moved), the cash flow
foots, the control accounts tie to their documents, a members close stays
within a minor unit of each member's exact share, schedules and
depreciation are posted, the register holds the cost accounts' cost,
every posted entry meets evidence::requirement (a reversal resting on its
original's receipt is listed as a note, not a failure), no draft is open,
every revenue and expense account has a tax category, and the 1099 and
settings problems the caller reads are findings. A check that cannot be
made is itself a finding. Findings come in one fixed order, so the same
books give the same list. The caller hands in what a ledger cannot know:
the receipts filed, the cash flow's footing, the settings problems.
The attestation bar (D-9) is a value, not a table: reasoning effort high,
two verifier agents and an adversarial check, with counts() deciding
whether a claim meets it. Every claim needs the effort; one on a
year-level audit needs the whole bar; a reading that disagrees with the
books never counts. policy.attestation_bar (a new Kind::AttestationBar,
one canonical text) and policy.cpa_package_requires_audit are the two
settings; both wait for the journal feature audits.

invoicing.first_number's refusal (LedgerError::FirstNumberLocked) lands
as the contract the store's check raises once invoices carry numbers
(S4.3): a series that has begun is never renumbered (B-40, A-2).
Also: the settings invariants name the number prefix's bound, update_party's
doc says which facts wait for documents_v2, and the email check no longer
reads as a single-arm match. Terms is S4.1's as it landed; this slice no
longer carries a copy.
Eleven settings the invoice and bill workflow reads: the number prefix and
first number, default terms, payment methods with their bank details and
QR links, a footer, the unsent and reminder day counts, the bill reminder
and discount-warning day counts, and the company's email and website that
the seller snapshot prints.
Three new kinds keep them exact: a count is a positive whole number, terms
are canonicalized through Terms so "net 30" is stored once as "Net 30"
(B-39), and a payment method list admits at most eight methods whose lines
are at most 120 characters. A routing number is nine digits, so an ach or
wire method's bank-detail lines are the one text exempt from the full-TIN
check (A-3); every other text in a method is scanned.
The keys need the documents_v2 feature (D-52): an older version doesn't
know them, and the settings replay refuses an unknown key as newer. The
constant, the known-features entry and the gate test land with this slice
(its 8.0.6 work); S4.3 adds the document write call sites and must not
redeclare them.
A settings file now exports the [invoicing] and [bills] tables, a payment
method as an inline table (never a [[payment_methods]] section that would
land outside its table), and imports them back to the same values. The
unknown-key test uses fax instead of website, which is now a setting.
A project is a class with facts (description, status, kind, party,
dates, links, notes) in one project.set event behind the format
feature projects. Four tools (books.add_project, update_project,
projects, project); documents and decisions link to projects; B-37:
on-spec costs are expensed as incurred, repayment is revenue, and the
unrecovered cost is never below zero (Kani). Viewer: a Projects list
and a project page with its figures, by month and by account. The
sidebar measures its footer instead of reserving a fixed 172 px.

The final month takes what the months before leave, spread over its days;
a disposed asset stops on its disposal day. A skipped month is caught up
in the month the run is made; a reversed run un-posts its month. New
schedules spread by day; equal-months schedules must start on the 1st.
Amounts round to the currency's own minor unit. Kani and Lean proofs; an
exhaustive search over runs, reversals and disposals.

books.rename_account; account names trimmed, bounded, refused when a
sibling's or TIN-shaped; books.show refuses what its target ignores. A
report asked for without dates covers this fiscal year so far, everywhere
(one rule for tools, descriptions and the viewer; the IIF and CPA package
keep their own dates). policy.require_tax_category warns or refuses; a
Form 4797 gain is shown apart on every return.

Direct method with the operating reconciliation and noncash schedules; it
foots by construction (Lean and Kani). Every non-cash account belongs to
one section; reversals net; a member or lender paying for the company is
cash borrowed and spent (D-42, constructive receipt and disbursement);
property a member contributes stays noncash. The bookspec seed: one loader
checks every example.

The server backs each book up itself: a per-book git archive, pushed
fast-forward only to a git remote and to a folder, when the books open,
after a quiet spell, before they close and on request; every commit,
push and drill is a record in ops/backup.jsonl. Drills clone each
target and verify the chain, the blobs, the vault and the head, weekly
and after a failure. `wanderbooks books restore` previews, then
restores beside or (with --replace) over, never moving books something
holds. The archive refuses anything but a plain bare repository and
pins git against the owner's configuration. books.backup and
books.back_up_now for the agent.

Settings, conventions (posting templates, approval rules, policies,
close steps, calendar, mappings, notes), decisions, open items and
entry approvals are journal events (journal format 2). Books that keep
their settings never read wanderbooks.toml or config.json; the server
and the viewer take the vault key from --vault-key-file instead.
books.import_settings moves a settings file in once, exactly as the
server reads it. Approval rules, when enforced, gate every posting
path. Replay refuses what it can't read as newer, never as corrupt.
Lean: a record changes no figure. Mutation on the whole diff: every
survivor killed by a test but two equivalent (docs/testing.md). The
Company page says a late open item is overdue in words, not colour
alone.
