The gate on 8ba104a1 passed every workspace test and failed only the
server-only build: P5's `books_start_fits_8_kib_on_the_demo_books`
builds the demo books with `ledger_gui`, which the no-viewer build
does not carry. Gated on the `gui` feature like its neighbours.

Two tests raced the host: one asserted the staged copy was applied the
instant the books reopened, the other that a dropped tampered copy's
folder was gone, when the new host may look at the feed again and stage
a fresh, true copy in its place. Both wait for what they mean now (the
apply; the tampered bytes gone). Every whole-program comparison is on
the sha256, so a failure's message is a line, not two binaries (GitHub
kept nine lines of a step's log on one such message).

The portable macOS job: the command line handed to `script` was the
words joined by spaces, and `Library/Application Support/wanderbooks`
split into two arguments ("unknown argument: Support/wanderbooks").
Each word is single-quoted now, on every OS; a word that is a shell
operator a test means as one (the consent test's `>`) stays bare.

two_user.rs started its flagged servers with env_clear plus a Unix PATH
and HOME, no SystemRoot: on Windows Winsock cannot start without it, so
the --http door failed to bind (the server says so on stderr and serves
its pipes only, which is why "ready" still came). The tests now use the
harness's clean_env, as do evidence.rs's extract and the viewer's
command_line test. main (a8ce2e7d) merged in.

The portable macOS job, now past the server start: `script -qefc` is
util-linux's spelling; macOS's BSD `script` has no -f and no -c, so the
three pseudo-terminal helpers choose the spelling for the OS. And the
root noted "for next time" is the canonical path (macOS writes /tmp as
/private/tmp); the test compares it canonically.

GitHub's check on 62d42b94: the spec script now runs `books.audit`
(P8), so the package gate is live when the script exports and the
run is behind the head; four tests failed on `audit_required`. The
script gives `without_audit_reason`, as a human would.
The portable macOS job, with the server's log in hand: "the books'
private folder's path is too long for its sockets". A Unix socket path
holds 104 bytes; the runner's temp folder plus a test home plus
`Library/Application Support/wanderbooks/run/` is longer. The job sets
TMPDIR=/tmp, so every test home is short there.

One conflict, ledger-host commands.rs: main moved the agent-program lookup
into find_agent_in; kept that and carried the Windows parts into it
(.exe/.cmd/.bat, npm's global folder). The harness already used

GitHub's check on 880278ea: `cpa_package_holds_the_year_and_its_evidence`
counts the IIF transliteration warnings, and P8's "No counted audit
stands behind this package" notice (a warning while the books hold no
audit run) made four into five; the count now excludes it.
The portable macOS job, now that the harness prints the server's log:
"there is no books' private folder yet: run `wanderbooks setup`
first". `Home::root()` spelled out `.local/share/wanderbooks`, the
Linux data folder; `setup --home` on macOS makes the root under
`Library/Application Support`. The harness asks `default_root` now,
the same answer on every OS.

D-27: a terminal panel along the bottom of the viewer (alacritty_terminal over
a PTY) runs Claude Code (default) or Codex in the book's books home, resizable,
collapsible, the choice remembered. The agent is an ordinary child process the
owner describes (agent_start); the viewer stays read-only: the agent writes
through the server like any other. A missing agent is offered through its
vendor's installer (a command to copy), never bundled; no folder is marked
trusted (Q-7, recommended answer: let Codex ask). Windows is not offered until
its ConPTY checks are recorded.
P11a found that onboarding with no terminal was false: the viewer opened only an
existing book. With no books and an owner, wanderbooks gui now shows a first-run
page: the private folder, the owner passphrase (typed in the viewer, optional),
the first books, an agent, then the books open. connect and New books... make
the books home. Tests: dock.rs, welcome.rs, books_home.rs (host and cli).

spec_vault swept every file under a book, lock files included; on Windows
a held LockFileEx lock is mandatory and the read failed. The locks are
already dedicated files (never data), so the test skips *.lock. Merged

GitHub's check on 794807ab: P8's fit-up replaced the step after
`books.close_period` (`books.verify`) with the audit and the
attestation, and P5's month_end_close eval, which follows only what
the books offer, lost the step it follows. The close now offers the
chain check first, then the audit the attestation rests on.
The portable macOS job failed every over-the-wire test with "the
server didn't say ready" and nothing else: the harness sent the
server's stderr to a file in the temp home and never showed it. It
now panics with that log, so the next run says what macOS refused.

While the books are open the host looks at the release feed at most once
a day (knob update_check, noted in updates/checked so a restart does not
look again), and only downloads and verifies a newer release into
<root>/updates/staged/ (sha256 AND minisign signature, as for update).
It never swaps: the staged program is applied (a) by an opener just
before it starts a host, when no host runs, so no call is cut off, after
a second check against the key (a staged file that fails or does not
start is dropped), and (b) by wanderbooks update, the owner's say-so,
which reuses the staged copy instead of downloading again. A local
release can be named in <root>/updates/feed (file:// only, with its key
file, same rule as --trusted-key). The program's version is set by main
since packages rewrite only the cli's. No new dependency.

An AppImage runs the program from a mount that goes away with the image
it came from, so a host held open past an update kept running the old
mount and never noticed the replaced image. The host now reads APPIMAGE
(added to its environment allow-list only when it names an absolute
file; it is a path the host reads about itself and never tells an agent,
so I-2 holds), runs and restarts from that file, and tells a replaced
program by its file's inode, size and last write. Test:
a_replaced_appimage_restarts_the_books (the programs run from one file
while APPIMAGE names another, as in a mount).

After P5 merged first: a close leads to the audit and the period's
attestation, an audit run to its workpaper and the claims behind it, the
attest tools to the attestations and the CPA package; a refusal for want of
a standing audit is the guard audit_required with books.audit as its
remedy; the audit prompt runs the audit tools. policy.cpa_package_requires_audit,
unset, refuses once the books hold an audit run and warns before, so a
book that has not begun the programme is not stopped from its first handoff
by a rule it has not met; set to refuse, it holds from the start.

The whole re-audit through the tools: books.audit previews its checks, then
with the preview's digest runs them, files the workpaper and journals the
run; the same books, day and scope return the run that exists.
books.attest_receipt, books.review_entry and books.attest_period record a
named client's claim with its self-reported method; books.attestations
weighs each against policy.attestation_bar as it stands. Under
policy.cpa_package_requires_audit = refuse, books that declared audits
cannot export the CPA package without a counted audit for the handoff at the
current head unless a reason is given, which is journaled as a decision
(D-9). Needs attention asks for the month-end attestation, the annual audit
and the audit before the handoff. Rules B-45, the handbook section, the
interface, parity, receipt-store and testing records, and the As-built
block. Merge needs no go-ahead: the live books refuse the new writes until
the owner gives it.

dispose_asset_takes_the_tag_and_the_tag_stays_reserved compares the preview
a disposal gives by asset id and by tag and says they show the same, apart
from the digest, which names the arguments as sent. The envelope's confirm
step repeats the arguments as sent too, so next_steps is set aside beside
the digest; everything the preview shows is still compared.

Two existing contracts the envelope broke when every result got every field:
a resource and its tool say the same (books://settings is books.settings,
checked by the_kept_resources_read), and a tool with no warnings has no
warnings key (books.add_account, defect 8). So head and next_steps are on
every tool that can change the books, next_steps is on a read only when
something follows it, guards is on a refusal, and the envelope adds no
warnings of its own (a tool's stay as they are).
The happy-path spec test now exercises books.journal_history (it fails on
a tool it never called), the demo company gets its books.start size check
(Done when 3), and the As-built block of P5 is written.

Agent reason: the envelope is only worth having if an agent can do its work
by following it. crates/ledger-cli/tests/agent_evals/ holds six scripted
transcripts, no model: onboarding to a first post, a receipt-backed post, a
draft that waits for its receipt and posts when it arrives, a reversal, a
reconciliation, a month-end close. agent_evals_follow_only_next_steps plays
each against a real books server: after books.start a step may call only a
tool (or fetch only a prompt) the previous result's next_steps named, with
the arguments the step gave and the ones the agent decides; setup calls (the
chart and the books an agent finds) are not the agent's moves.
agent_surface.rs holds the over-the-wire tests of the rest: the journal in
words (order, subject and type filters, paging, a bad subject refused),
source corrections through the three tools, the prompts rendered against
their files and refused when malformed, the resource templates advertised
and read, books.start v2 whole and under 8 KiB with the self-report in the
access log only, a new book told to onboard, and a mutating call answering
with the head the journal has and a refusal naming its remedy.
Docs: testing.md's P5 section (every test, and the For-P12 paragraph naming
what a mutant would flip), parity.md (no feature moved; one row), and
architecture.md (the envelope and the guards); mcp-interface.md's overview
sections now describe the surface as built.

Agent reason: one name for one thing. S4 and S6 kept the old spellings "until
P5" so an agent that learned them did not break; P5 removes them, so the
schema an agent reads has one parameter for each fact and a call cannot name
the same thing twice with different answers.
books.create_invoice takes customer and books.create_bill vendor (a record's
id, its party's id or its name; required), no party_id.
books.receive_payment and books.pay_bill take invoice or bill and
deposit_to or paid_from, no document_id or cash_account; a payment names its
document and its account or is refused saying which to pass. A number that is
one record's id and another's name is still refused, never guessed (INVARIANT
6).
The over-the-wire tests that used the old spellings now use the new
(document_id becomes invoice or bill, cash_account becomes deposit_to or
paid_from, party_id becomes customer or vendor given as the id's text); the
one test that named the alias, party_id_alias_still_works, is now
a_customer_by_id_and_by_name_is_one_record and checks the same two spellings
of a customer, by id and by name, name one record.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01HS8WZziDnyxunC23MUxrLp
Agent reason: an agent traces a figure back to what produced it by reading
the journal, but it must never read the file. books.journal_history is the
one way: each line in order with its seq, time, type, a sentence saying what
it did to what, its subject and the entry it belongs to, filtered by
after_seq, type (exact, or a group like entry.) and subject (entry:12,
invoice:3, bill:3, account:10, party:5, asset:2), paged with more, with the
torn tails set aside on open listed beside them. It reads the verified
journal through read_journal_and_format, so a damaged chain is an error, not
a story.
The sentences come from ledger-store's describe.rs, which quotes only
identifiers, dates, amounts and the short names a person typed: never a
setting's value (settings.set names its keys) and never a full TIN (masked,
B-26). Every event type the store writes has a sentence (tested against
EVENT_TYPES). The tool is read-only (books:read); the books://journal/{seq}
and books://entries/{id} resources read through it.
Departure from the plan: the viewer's own sentences (its describe arms in
ledger-gui, which carry icons, routes and today's party and account names)
stay where they are; moving a thousand lines of egui text behind a
formatting trait was not worth the risk to the viewer's tests, so the server
has the shared describer and the viewer keeps its own.

Accounting reason: a convention, a decision or an open item carries who
decided it, when and on what authority. When that is recorded wrongly the
honest fix is to say so on the record, not to restate the policy: a policy
revision bumps the convention's revision and reads as a change of the rule,
and a new decision supersedes the old one. A source correction changes only
the authority and says why, so the audit trail shows the words were never
altered.
New event types convention.source_revised, decision.source_revised and
open_item.source_revised {id, source, reason} under the journal feature
source_revisions: an older version would refuse the types, or show the old
source as the record's authority, so it stops at the declaration instead
(rules.md B-27) and books that have not had the owner's upgrade refuse the
write with format_upgrade_pending, journaling nothing. Replay sets the
source and nothing else (the text, the revision and the journal line stay);
the projection updates the rows' existing source columns, so no schema
changed. A correction must be one: other words, the same source, no reason
or an unknown record is refused.
books.set_convention takes reason (the text exactly as it stands),
books.record_decision and books.raise_item take revises with reason. Without
reason the old refusal stands and now says how to correct only the source.
8.0.6: the hand-written lines of the three shapes in
books_written_under_older_rules_still_open; fixture old-books/p5_before,
written by b97234ac (a revised convention, two decisions, two open items, a
draft) through old-books-writer/src/bin/p5_before.rs, opens to that
version's figures, so no figure moved; books_p2_served_cut_over_whole
refuses the correction before consent and takes it after; the fuzzer and the
viewer's journal know the types. The live books refuse the new write until
the owner gives the go-ahead; merging does not need it.
Tests: a_source_only_revision_is_journaled,
a_source_revision_must_change_only_the_source,
source_revisions_wait_for_the_upgrade, source_revisions_is_its_own_feature.

An AppImage's launcher runs the desktop file's Exec line and appends the
arguments it was given, so with `Exec=wanderbooks gui` the AppImage's
`update` ran `wanderbooks gui update`: the program's own commands were
unreachable through it. The desktop files now say plain `Exec=wanderbooks`
and a bare launch with stdin not a terminal (a menu entry, a double-click)
is the viewer; at a terminal it is the usage, as before. The AppImage is
thereby also the command line (`Wanderbooks.AppImage update`).
Test: bare_launch_tests::only_nothing_at_all_with_no_terminal_is_the_viewer

`wanderbooks update` reads a release manifest (default: GitHub Releases'
fixed address, D-26), refuses anything not higher than this version,
downloads the platform's file and accepts it only if its sha256 matches
the manifest AND its minisign signature verifies against the release key
compiled into the program (WANDERBOOKS_RELEASE_PUBKEY at build time;
a build without one updates from nothing but a file:// feed whose key the
owner names with --trusted-key, so a local release can be tried). The
verified file is staged under <root>/updates/<version>/, the running
version is kept under updates/previous/ with the journal format it
understood, and the program file is replaced by a rename of a complete
copy made beside it (a reader sees the old file or the new, never a
part). The new program must answer --help; if not, the old one is put
back. Nothing tells the books to stop: the host already notices a
replaced executable and restarts onto it, finishing calls in progress
(host.rs INVARIANT 7).
`wanderbooks rollback` swaps the kept version back, and refuses while any
book declares a journal format or feature the kept version does not know
(plan 3.9: after the owner consents to a newer format the only way back is
the pre-upgrade restore). A package-managed install (a package ships
share/wanderbooks/install-method beside bin/) refuses both and says to use
the package manager. An AppImage replaces the file named by $APPIMAGE.
Tests (crates/ledger-cli/tests/update.rs): update_is_atomic,
failed_update_rolls_back, unsigned_update_refused (another key, other
bytes, a sha that differs, no signature, not a signature),
bridge_survives_update, update_waits_for_a_running_call,
package_managed_install_refuses_update, the kept-version and format-gate
tests; unit tests in ledger-host/src/update.rs.
Dependencies: minisign-verify 0.3 in ledger-host (what cargo-packager's
updater uses to check release files; no dependencies of its own) and
minisign 0.10 as a ledger-cli dev-dependency (the tests sign with a key
they make). sha2 and the two minisign crates are built optimized in debug
and test builds: the tests hash a debug build's program. The release
profile strips symbols, for the packages (P11a step 3).

Windows steps 3 of D-62. Every `cfg(unix)` gate on the host, the bridge,
the opener, the books server and the command line is gone: they build on
every OS, and the Unix behaviour is unchanged (the existing over-the-wire
suites pass on Linux).
`ledger_mcp::ipc` is the one seam for the channels. Unix: the same 0600
sockets as before, peer uid unchanged (the peer functions moved here).
Windows: a named pipe `\\.\pipe\wanderbooks-<hash of the root's run/>-<name>`
made with a DACL of one allow entry for this account's SID, remote
clients refused, the first instance made once (a second server is
refused, as a held lock refuses it on Unix), and 16 idle instances kept
waiting so a client never finds all busy while the server makes the next.
Where Unix reads `SO_PEERCRED`, each end of a pipe takes the other's
process id (`GetNamedPipeClientProcessId`/`...ServerProcessId`) and
compares that process's token user with its own SID; any doubt is "not
us". Clients open with SECURITY_IDENTIFICATION so a pipe server cannot
act as the client. A blocking client with a read limit is polled with
PeekNamedPipe (a pipe read cannot be cut short), and a pipe that has
gone reads as the end of the stream, as a closed socket does. Stop
signals are Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Break, console close and shutdown where Unix has
SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUP.
The host starts detached (DETACHED_PROCESS | CREATE_NEW_PROCESS_GROUP,
leaving the opener's job when the job lets it: an agent's job must not
take the host down, as an app's systemd scope must not on Linux) with a
fixed environment; `close_range` and `seccomp` stay Linux-only (D-32). A
replaced program is told by size and last write. Git for Windows is found
and a quiet git is stopped with its tree (`taskkill /T`). The test
harness of ledger-cli finds its root by `default_root`, cleans a child's
environment per OS and reaches the server over its pipe; the bridge's
scripted-server tests stay Unix-only.
No new dependency (tokio's named pipes and reqwest's `windows_named_pipe`
were already in the build); `windows-sys` stays in ledger-store.
Tests: ledger-mcp `ipc::tests` (four on every OS, one Windows only),
ledger-host `tests/windows_pipe.rs::a_second_user_cannot_open_the_pipe`,
Windows variants of the host and start tests.

Accounting reason: a confirm must act on the thing that was previewed.
Every tool with confirmed (post_entry, reverse_entry, run_schedules,
dispose_asset, reconcile, close_period, create_invoice, create_bill,
write_off_invoice, purge_tin, consolidate_duplicates, and the S6
settlement tools receive_payment and pay_bill, which gain confirmed and
preview on a clone of the ledger) returns preview (SHA-256 of the
canonical preview) and refuses a confirm whose preview is missing or
stale (stale_preview, before anything is written). A draft's digest is
its own state and the settings seq; an operation's is the tool, its
arguments as sent, the settings seq and the journal head seq, so another
session's write forces a re-preview (D-50).
New tools books.list_drafts, books.set_draft_state, books.discard_draft,
books.preview_entry; reports carry as_of_status (drafts open on or before
their end, unreconciled accounts, settings problems) and take strict; the
CPA package is refused while a draft dated in it is open unless
allow_open_drafts gives a reason, journaled as a decision;
books.digest takes since_seq (what was posted since a journal line,
backdated entries included: defect 6) and lists zero_net_accounts,
drafts_by_state and the reconciliation split. Needs attention gains
'draft awaiting receipt' beside 'draft not posted'; the drafts handbook

D-63: the 0700 data root is the trust boundary already (I-1: hidden, not
locked), so the OS keyring added no wall and cost headless servers a D-Bus
session, CI a knob and every OS its own store. The file keeper is the only
store: run/tokens/, 0600, written atomically. The three keyring stores, the
file_keyring knob and their tests are removed; an unreadable token file is an
error, never no token.

The last of the paused branches, from its "not for merge" checkpoint:
extraction in ledger-import (text, pages, page images; capped, caught),
journaled as attachment.text_extracted; dedup by hash with
books.find_attachment and books.consolidate_duplicates; annotations and
books.set_entry_settles; the company record categories; the two fuzz
targets; feature attachment_text. Nineteen files conflicted with the
four P4b merges, resolved as plan 8.0.2 says: P6 retakes schema 18 (it
had taken 16, which S4.3 holds; S5 holds 17); the tool table is 129 and
the destructive count 31; both sides' appends kept with their seams
restored; one B-27 paragraph naming every feature; in the old-books
fixture P6's hand-written reimbursement is entry 7 (its ids collided
with S4.3's invoice); the replay fuzzer's list gains S7's
invoice.written_off; S4.3's issued-PDF test expects the extraction
record P6 journals right after a filing.
One integration defect between S7 and P6, found by the arap property
test and fixed here: under P6's dedup, a write-off whose evidence bytes
were filed already (the same collection letter for a second write-off of
the same invoice) was refused only after its entry had been journaled,
at the final link to the invoice ("already linked"). The write-off now
resolves the dedup before anything is journaled and keeps a link the
record already has to the invoice instead of refusing it; an explicit
existing_attachment_id already on an entry is still refused (S7's
one-receipt-once rule). P6's gate never ran before the pause; it runs on
main after this merge, and its ledger-store -> ledger-import dependency
is the open review point (plan 8.0.1).

The fourth of the paused branches: Ledger::write_off and the bad_debts
control role, invoice.written_off with its evidence filed in the same
store call, books.write_off_invoice, the write-off on the timeline and
in Needs attention, Lean writeOff_within_bounds, rules.md B-41 and the
bookspec examples. Twenty-eight files conflicted with the S4.4, S5 and
S6 merges; resolved as plan 8.0.2 says, keeping both sides' appends with
their seams restored, and: the scope table at 125; S7's law numbered 37;
B-41 placed before B-42; the handbook's step 4 and recovery procedures
folded into the one invoices-and-bills section; S7's wire tests in their
own module with the confirm S4.4's contract needs; S7's copy of the
payment steps dropped (S6 replaced them with Ledger::settle) and its
write-off journaled through S6's journal_auto_lines; in the old-books
fixture S7's hand-written write-off moved to a second invoice, since
S6's hand-written payment settles invoice 1 in full.

The third of the paused branches: Ledger::settle with discounts and the
processor's fee (kernel::settle, Kani settle_is_exact, Lean
settle_posts_a_document_step), books.receive_payment and books.pay_bill
with applications, books.bills_due, the agings' detail and tie-out, the
aging exports and the CPA package's aging CSVs, the handlers in
tools/settlements.rs. Twelve files conflicted with the S4.4 and S5
merges, resolved as plan 8.0.2 says: both routers; both test appends
(the shared match arm in arap_standing.rs spliced into both tests; the
shared `.unwrap()` in store.rs); the scope table at 124; one
invoices-and-bills handbook (S5's send step 1 with S6's steps 2, 3, 5
and procedures) registered once; docs/mcp-interface.md with S4.4's
create docs and S6's payment docs; S5's law renumbered 35 and S6's 36
(S1's is 34); the parity rows and sections of both. S6's wire tests
create their bills as S4.4's contract now requires (confirmed, the
vendor's number, a line account, the vendor's invoice uploaded) and live
in their own module beside S4.4's tests.

The second of the paused branches. invoice.sent, Ledger::mark_sent (with
its Lean step), books.mark_sent in its own group, the two attention
items, schema 17. Conflicts, resolved as plan 8.0.2 says: the shared
over-the-wire test file crates/ledger-cli/tests/documents.rs (S4.4's
file kept whole, S5's test appended, its create call given the
confirmed: true the S4.4 contract now needs), types.rs (both appends
kept), docs/parity.md (the review's oracle row and S5's new row).

The books record that an invoice went out but do not chase it. U0b's
one attention engine now lists two items the sent record makes possible,
in the viewer's Needs attention and in books.start's next steps alike:
- "Invoice INV-0007 was never sent": an issued invoice (a number) still
Open or Partial, with no send recorded, once today is past its issue
date plus invoicing.unsent_days (default 2). A legacy invoice with no
number is exempt, and so is a void or settled one.
- "Invoice INV-0007 is overdue: remind the customer": the invoice is
overdue and its last send is older than invoicing.reminder_days
(default 14). An invoice never sent gets the first item, not this one.
Both are Todo, open the invoice, and offer books.mark_sent with its
invoice and the tool's defaults. The viewer maps the new
Target::Invoice to its invoice page (one line; items still come only
from ledger-package), and the two lists cannot drift.
Tests: an_unsent_invoice_is_listed_until_a_send_clears_it (the overview
draws it; attention-unsent-invoice.png; a send clears it),
a_legacy_invoice_with_no_number_is_never_listed_as_unsent,
an_overdue_invoice_with_an_old_send_is_asked_to_remind, and
an_unsent_invoice_is_on_both_lists (viewer and books.start, step
books.mark_sent on invoice:1). The existing attention parity test stays
green.
`inv1_every_tool_result_matches_its_output_schema` fails listing any
tool the happy-path journey never calls successfully; the new send tool
must be in it. The journey records one send on the invoice it already
created (the books never send), so its output schema is exercised on
every run like every other tool's.
`books.mark_sent` records the send the human or a delegate made: the
invoice (`invoice:7` or its id), the day, who sent it (the token's name
unless given), how (email by default, or mail, portal, hand, another
channel), to whom (the bill-to email, else the customer's), whether it
was the original or a reminder (original on the first send, reminder
after), and the channel's own id. It answers with every send on the
invoice, newest last. `books.documents` rows gain `last_sent` and
`books.document` shows the sends, so "did we send it, and when" is one
read away, while a bill (which we receive) has none.
The schema lint refuses a parameter named `to` (a path-name rule), so
the recipients parameter is `recipients`; the journal event and the
result keep the plan's `to`. The tool needs `books:write`: it changes
the record, never a figure.
The handbook gains the invoices-and-bills section (S4.5 had not landed
yet) with the send procedure: the books never send, the PDF goes to the
human, and each send is recorded afterwards.
Over the wire, mark_sent_records_who_and_how: two sends (the second a
reminder with a message id), the list's `last_sent`, the document's
`sends`, and the invoice still owing its total. The P2 cutover refuses
a send before consent and takes it after.
books.receive_payment and books.pay_bill take applications, each
document's cash with an optional discount and reason, and a customer
payment may carry the processor's fee; the result names every document it
settled and what reached the account. books.bills_due lists what to pay
and the running total by due date. The agings take detail and return the
control account's tie-out, and books.export writes ar_aging/ap_aging.
The handlers live in tools/settlements.rs (the EM's split, so S4.4's
documents.rs stays free); documents.rs keeps the documents, the void and
the control check. docs/mcp-interface.md documents every changed tool and
the new one; docs/architecture.md names the group; docs/testing.md
records the tests and P12's mutation targets.
Old names (document_id, cash_account) still work; the output keeps
remaining/status for one document. A fee's processor is named in the
description, not tagged as the entry's vendor: ledger tags are entry-wide
and tagging would move the customer's party totals and 1099-NEC.
The handbook's invoices-and-bills section gains the payment, discount,
fee and bounce-replacement procedures (S4.5 can extend it). Over the wire:
one_payment_settles_two_invoices, late_discount_needs_a_reason,
a_fee_posts_gross_to_receivables_and_net_to_the_bank,
card_paid_bill_is_not_1099_nec,
multi_document_payment_counts_once_for_1099_and_party_totals,
overpayment_refused_with_the_excess,
bills_due_orders_by_due_and_discount and the_aging_export_ties_out.
Terms cannot yet be journaled on a document (S4.3) and a bill line's
account is not an MCP field (S4.4), so bill_on_terms_with_discount,
equipment_bill_payment_is_investing_cash and the discount half of
bills_due are core tests until those land; the unit's As-built block
records this.
No behaviour: the files as rustfmt leaves them after the unit's edits
(the commits before this one were made before the formatter ran), and the
Ledger::write_off spec block cites A-5 alone for the direct write-off
method (A-6 is the hand-entry refusal, not this command).
spec_mcp's inv1 walks every tool once and fails on any the books never
answered: the happy path now creates an invoice that will not be paid,
uploads the collection letter, and writes it off with the evidence in the
same call, so books.write_off_invoice's output schema is checked like
every other tool's.
One tool for the bad debt (rules.md B-41): it writes off an invoice that
will not be collected, Dr 6990 Bad Debt Expense / Cr 1200 Accounts
Receivable, the receivable line tagged with the invoice so the document
reads written_off and its figures stay derived (B-38).
The evidence is the point, and the tool takes exactly one of
upload_id (an upload, filed with the write-off) and
existing_attachment_id (one already filed, linked to the write-off's
entry and the invoice); neither or both is refused. amount defaults to
what the invoice owes and may be partial.
Without confirmed it is a preview: the engine runs on a clone (every
refusal the post would give) and the answer is the figures the write-off
would leave, entry_id 0, nothing journaled.
The tool lives in its own group file, tools/write_offs.rs (plan U0a), so
S4.4's document tools and this one land apart; it is destructive, needs
books:write to preview and books:post to post (scopes.rs), and is
documented under "Tools — A/R and A/P". The destructive-tool count, the
tool tables and the journey test's tool count each move by one.
Tests over the wire: write_off_then_recovery, write_off_needs_evidence.
